Meet the Artist
Hi friends! My name is Bailey DeGroot, and I’m a fine artist eager to create pieces that merge aesthetic simplicity with detailed work.
Having grown up in a cozy condo in the city of Lancaster, California, I never would’ve believed you if you told me I’d be studying art in Florida. I was a homebody and talking to people used to terrify me; I hated it. I would’ve rather been watching a cartoon come to life. It wasn’t until we moved to Oklahoma that I got out of my comfort zone, and along the way, the Lord changed my heart towards community. The journey from California to Oklahoma, and now Florida, has given me connections that inspire the work I do.
Art didn’t become a genuine passion until we moved to Oklahoma. Call me petty, but my sister started drawing before I ever seriously invested in it, and when I saw what was possible with a pencil, I had to prove I could do it too. I would draw all kinds of cartoon characters as accurately as I could. The colorful use of shapes and silhouettes within character design has always fascinated me and influenced how I view portraiture. While I’m open to a variety of artistic ventures, I find people to be the most exciting thing to communicate through art. So much personality and energy can come to life with one brushstroke, and I strive to communicate that in the details of my portraiture.
As a fine artist, I’m eager to create pieces that merge aesthetic simplicity with detailed work, and I strive to bring others along on this simple yet complex artistic adventure. If I’m not investing in my creative work, I’m most likely preparing for a marathon or drinking coffee with a friend. Endeavoring to find inspiration wherever I go, I’d love to work with you to create art that lasts a lifetime!
